Ideas for Using QR Codes in the Classroom

QR Codes in the Classroom

QR Codes can be used in many different ways in the classroom.

The first step would be to download a QR Code Maker.
Some recommended apps are QRReader, QR Code Maker, or Qrafter.
I use QRReader on my iPad.

Some uses for QR Codes in the classroom:

QR codes can guide research by linking the student to a direct website.  This prevents random searching, searches that might be inappropriate, and time spent typing in web address incorrectly.  The teacher might make 3 QR codes linked to 3 separate websites for research.

QR codes can be linked to information posted on the web, rather than making copies, teachers, students, or parents can scan the code and have access to a variety of paperless handouts.

QR codes can be linked to student work online.  For example, a student could display a book report or a piece of artwork and attach a QR code that links the artwork to a biography of the artist, or a narrative relating to the piece.

QR codes can be created to link to videos on youtube or to your blog.  If you would like to record your lesson for the day, you can post your video to your class blog or website.  Create a QR code for students that were absent or that would like to view the lesson again.

QR codes can be used in class centers or workstations.  When using ipads, students can scan the QR code.  Questions can be at the workstation.  Students would use the website to collaborate and answer the questions in their group at each workstation.

QR codes can be displayed around the room or around the school.  Students could scan the codes around the room to learn about different topics.

Interactive Bulletin Boards, Links to books or stories online, Scavenger Hunts for ELL students...

Link books to the author by placing a QR code in the front cover linking the book to the author's web page.

A beginning of the year activity could be a rules/expectations activity with QR codes placed around the room...students scan the code and it could be linked to a prior student creating a youtube video, linked to a poster of expectations downloaded on google drive...

Video a lesson, post it on youtube or create a tutorial then post/publish it online.  Create a QR code to allow for easy access to the video/tutorial.

Share class projects and events on the web using a QR code link.

Post QR codes around your classroom for parents to scan at a parent night.  This is a great way to showcase student work, classroom procedures, or explain materials used in the room.
